At the beginning of each week, I will send a reading response sheet and a worksheet (math or grammar). I have explained to students that I don't expect them to do all the sheets on the first day. The math is marked for Tuesday's homework and the reading response for Wednesday's. I have also included a translation of the reading response sheets to help you. If some sections don't apply to that particular book, it is okay to skip them. Students were also told that if they know they won't have time to do homework on Tuesdays (because of hockey practice, piano lessons, etc.) they may choose to do it on Monday. Also, students who finish their work before the other students have the opportunity to start their homework in class. (Using time wisely is very important in my class.)
There is a used book sale Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of this week. Books are 25 cents each or 5 for a dollar. Proceeds will go toward the Terry Fox Foundation and the purchase of new library books for our school.
Regarding the Scholastic book orders, a parent asked a very good question. I thought I could share with all of you. The company has levels of difficulty from 1 to 4. At this time of year, I would order level 2. Later on in the year, my students should be able to read the level 3 books with a better understanding.
We are finally settling into routines and getting to know each other better. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
